The story begins in a typical small town in 1956. Cookie's soda shop is the place to be if you are anybody. The soda shop is hopping and the waitress Sally (played by Kathleen) is busy taking orders. Cookie (played by Nadyeine) is trying to keep up with the orders. Sally stops to talk to Debbie (played by Elyse), Susan (played by Marianne) and Charlotte (played by Zoe) to tell them about the new person Cookie has hired to help out in the shop. Sally doesn't know too much about the new person except that he was previously in jail. Charlotte remarks that there is already one too many tough guys in town.
Just then, Danny (played by Ben) walks in with his gang Fred (played by Rob), Herbert (played by Stavros) and Stella (played by Kristin). Danny kicks a group of girls (played by Erin, Amanda, Emmanuelle and Christine) out of their table and takes their order of food. Herbert is kind of an oddball in the gang but the others put up with him because he does their homework for them.
Johnny (played by Will), the new hire, arrives at the soda shop for work. His first customers are Danny and the gang. Danny tries to fluster Johnny by giving him a long, confusing order but Johnny handles it with aplomb. The girls in the shop are impressed with Johnny's confident manner. Danny's mood isn't helped any with Larry (played by Vlad) because Larry is fooling around with the jukebox so much that it is getting on Danny's nerves. As a final attempt to irk Johnny, Danny tells Johnny that every new employee gets to pay the first order for him and his gang. Johnny smoothly responds by saying no money, no food. Danny sees that he isn't going to get anywhere with his little joke so he tells Herbert to pay for the food. Danny is not a happy person with Johnny around.
